Fish species in our ponds include bluegill, sunfish, black crappie, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and walleye. Our ponds are outfitted with handicapped accessible docks and bridges so people with any level of mobility can enjoy them. Trophy fish range that have been caught, range from six pound largemouth bass to twenty-five pound channel catfish.

Very few places in Colorado can offer the diversity of game that Whiskey Springs has in abundance. Waterfowl species that have been taken on the property include Canada and Snow geese as well as many different species of ducks. Among the varieties of ducks taken are mallard, blue and green winged teal, shoveler, pintail, gadwall, widgeon, golden eye, red heads and buffleheads. Upland bird species such as ring-necked pheasant, quail, and chukar can be pursued behind the highest of quality pointing dogs. If wing-shooting isn’t your forte, access to over fifteen-thousand acres of rangeland for deer and antelope hunting may be just the ticket. While some hunting preserves offer a yearly event that focuses on the disabled, we at Whiskey Springs ranch know that passion for the outdoors is not a once a year feeling. To facilitate mobility and hunter success, we have developed several pieces of adaptive equipment. The first is the Go-Getter. The Go-Getter is a platform mounted over a wheel that fits brackets attached to the front of an ATV. A seat is then added that features a five point racing harness for safety and stability. The Go-Getter allows a mobility impaired individual the freedom of going anywhere he or she wishes in the outdoors. Along with the Go-Getter, goose pit lifts, tree stands, and duck blinds have also been made accessible. Besides our children hunt free policy, every fall, Whiskey Springs Ranch teams up with officers from the Colorado Division of Wildlife to put together the Whiskey Springs Ranch “Cast and Blast”.

 This youth/mentor event promotes hunting and fishing in a fun, responsible, and ethical way. First in the many activities that go on during Cast and Blast is the, Shoot…Don’t Shoot course. This course teaches safe firearm techniques in a very safe and practical method. A trail is set up with different stations that test the ability of the young hunter to make safe, ethical decisions in a variety of very practical hunting situations. After the Shoot…Don’t Shoot course, the budding hunters are then taken to a clay range where instructors are waiting to work with the young shooter to improve gun handling skills as well as marksmanship ability. Following mornings activities, lunch is then served. With the day only half over, the young shooter and their mentor will take the field with a professional guide and hunt behind excellent dogs for upland birds. While waiting for his or her turn to go afield, fishing in our ponds for bass and pan fish helps the novice angler to pass the time between activities.
